Random Acts of Kindness

In Ellie’s eulogy, the community was called upon to honor Ellie’s memory by doing at least one thing they’ve never done before to make the world a more beautiful place. Loved ones were asked to consider volunteering somewhere new, donating to a cause that is special to them, or paying it forward to a complete stranger.

Be Patient and understanding, assume noble intent in others.
Be Forgiving, to others and yourself.
Be accepting. Don’t judge or gossip. Everyone has a story and their own battles you may not know about.
Be Polite. Say Please and Thank you to anyone and everyone.
Be thoughtful, check on elderly neighbors after a snow storm, or a friend who lost their parent or child on potentially hard holidays.

Knit hats for newborn babies at your local hospital.
Make a meal for an elderly, sick or new neighbor; new parent; or grieving family.
Bake treats for your trash collector, mail person, or coworkers.
Send a care package to a Soldier.
Start a Kindness Rock Project
Make a Giving jar or Giving plate (Check Pinterest for ideas and tutorials!)

Let someone merge in front of you
Give someone a genuine compliment
Let someone with only a few items go in front of you in line at the store.
Babysit for someone for free to let them have a night out.
Put sticky notes with positive slogans around the office.
Email or write to thank someone who had an impact on your life.
Volunteer at a local charity event, Boys & Girls Club, Food Bank, animal shelter or Nursing home.

Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.

Pay for the person behind you in at the coffee shop, drive through, grocery store
Pick up the tab for the table next to you in a restaurant.
Donate clothes or household items to Partners In Care, Goodwill or Salvation Army.
Donate food to a local food bank.
Donate pet toys, food or blankets to your local animal shelter.
Donate money to your favorite charity (For Ellie Donations)
Sponsor a family or elderly person for the holidays.
